I bet a lot of people have never heard of a boy drowns in bed. There is a story in the news today about a boy drowns in bed of a 10 year old boy by the name of Johnny Johnson in Goose Creek South Carolina. This dry drowning occurred after Johnny Johnson swallowed some water while swimming in a swimming pool. After getting out of the pool he was having problems with not feeling well so he went to take a nap to hopefully feel better. When a relative checked on him they found him having breathing difficulites. They took him to the Trident Hospital where he later died. Yes, boy drowns in bed - how can this be?

What a horrible day for this family.

This is a new concept to me that I have never heard of so I decided to look it up and find out exactly what it is. According to some sources, dry drowning is when the lungs cannot get the oxygen they need from the air. This can sometimes be due to the inhaling of water but can also happen other ways such as muscle paralysis, ogygen absorbing tissue changes, breathing in various gases, etc.

With dry drowning, it is possible to drown without any liquid involed at all like we normally associate drowning with. Accidents like these seem to be quite rare but it is something that can happen under the wrong circumstances.
