There are a lot of benefits to private schools other than the benefit of hopefully there being less chance of violence being there. For example, private school students sometimes have the advantage when applying for Ivy League colleges. Also, a lot of private schools have better facilities to learn and more money to throw at learning resources.
Another advantage to private schooling is a lot of times, there are less students in each class giving more teacher and student time together and a better chance to learn.
Sure, you may find violence like the Manhasset Lockdown that occurred today. But, there’s alot less of a chance for this and at a private school you will learn a lot more and be more at ease.
You should really get your information right. I am a student that experienced everything. I am in 7th grade. Email me questions
I didn’t really say much about the incident itself. I was talking more about private schooling. However, feel free to post your experiences here. I sure people would love to hear about what happened first hand. It must have been a horrible experience.
I just have to say that explained nothing. Privite schools will have the same problems and as for education Manhasset is a great teaching facility students would love to get their education there. I was in the lockdown and in fact I feel safer there after this knowing no one got hurt and that we knew what to do.
I have to agree with the other two people. I also was a student in the lockdown. They have not even confirmed that a weapon was there at all.
It’s good to hear from people that were actually there at the Manhasset High School! I was only going from what was originally reported by the news and sometimes things are not always accurate there. ![]()
Got a great email from someone who was there that gave a great explanation on what happened:
“At the end of second period the principal came on over the loud speaker saying that second period would be extended. After about ten minutes our teacher got a piece of paper explaining the situation and the teacher would not tell us what it said. The parents were notified about the situation, so then they all showed up at the school. Thank goodness all of us had cell phones so we could stay in contact with our parents. Our parents eventually told us what was happening over the phone, thats when will all got nervous. Our teacher would not let us sit or stand in front of the door. The classroom was locked and the blinds were down. After about three hours people showed up to the door offering to escort people to use the bathroom if we had to go. After a few more hours we were taken down to the cafeteria, but before we were allowed to enter we had to go through a metal detector and have our backpacks searched. After we had lunch in the cafeteria we were brought to the gym were we stayed for the rest of the day. We were finally let out and no gun was found. There were many news reporters in front of the school asking for interviews. I thought Manhasset staff did a very good job on keeping us safe. It was a very scary experience that I will never forget.”
